From Hong Kong to Lolland: An Autumn Forest Elopement in Denmark

Beneath two old trees named Albert and Alice, a bride and groom from Hong Kong said “I do” in a forest on the Danish island of Lolland. Seasonal flowers decorated large tree stumps, the bride carried a bouquet that echoed the woodland setting, and the surrounding leaves brought together the greens and golden yellows of autumn.

We organised this intimate autumn wedding in Denmark around a setting we know and love: a forest ceremony space where the trees, the flowers and the changing season become part of the celebration.

From Hong Kong to a forest on Lolland

For this couple, eloping to Denmark meant travelling far from home for an intimate wedding surrounded by nature. Their story brought together two very different places: Hong Kong, where their journey began, and a quiet forest on Lolland, where they exchanged their vows.

There is something personal about choosing a place like this for a wedding. The ceremony has a canopy of branches overhead, and the backdrop comes from the old trees and the colours of the season. Here, the surroundings leave space for the couple and the words they have travelled so far to say.

Albert and Alice, the two trees overlooking the ceremony space, are around 400 years old. Their names give this corner of the forest a character of its own, while their age adds a sense of continuity to a day that marks a new beginning.

Although autumn had already turned parts of the surrounding woodland yellow, these old trees still held some green. That mixture gave the ceremony a beautiful backdrop: golden autumn colour alongside the fresh greens of the forest.

This woodland venue is part of our local knowledge at Nordic Adventure Weddings. This peaceful forest on Lolland is an ideal setting for intimate weddings and elopements, with centuries-old trees, seasonal colours and space to celebrate surrounded by nature.

For this wedding, large tree stumps became flower stands, bringing seasonal arrangements into the ceremony space while keeping the forest itself in view.

The flowers connected the wedding styling to its surroundings. Seasonal arrangements decorated the stumps, while the bride’s bouquet carried the same woodland feeling into the ceremony and the photographs.

The bouquet, the old wood and the autumn foliage complemented one another. Each detail contributed to the atmosphere without overwhelming the natural beauty around the couple.

For an autumn forest wedding in Denmark, this is a lovely starting point: let the setting guide the styling, then add the details that make the celebration your own.

An intimate ceremony, followed by cake and bubbles

At the heart of the day was their ceremony beneath the trees. The photographs capture the bride and groom saying “I do” in the forest they had chosen for their elopement.

Afterwards came cake and bubbles, continuing the celebration in the woodland surroundings. These moments deserve a place in the wedding story too: enjoying something sweet, raising a glass and taking time together after the ceremony.

From the flowers to the celebration afterwards, the forest remained the thread connecting the day.

A newlywed walk through the autumn colours

After the ceremony, the couple walked through the woodland for their wedding photographs. Some images show the green that remained around the old trees; others capture the bright yellow leaves that made the autumn setting so distinctive.

Together, the photographs preserve a season in transition—and the particular colours of Lolland on their wedding day.

There is something especially lovely about these walking photographs. Alongside the ceremony images and carefully chosen flowers, they show the couple simply spending time together in the place where they had just exchanged their vows.

This celebration offers a glimpse of what an intimate destination wedding in Europe can look like when nature shapes the day: a woodland ceremony, seasonal flowers, cake and bubbles, and time together beneath old trees.
